National Walnut Day

If you love walnuts, today is your day---National Walnut Day!  It's another nutty food holiday!  The United States of America is the largest exporter of walnuts and they're prolifically grown in the San Joaquin and Sacramento valleys of California.  The walnut cake and walnut pie are quite popular desserts in many parts of the planet.

Here in Aotearoa New Zealand, we also grow as much walnuts as we can, since our climate is very suitable for their growth.  They were brought to the country by English and French settlers.  The NZ Walnut Industry Group Inc. is the association tasked with nurturing and promoting walnuts in the country.
