First of May

In this part of the Southern Hemisphere it's already May 1st and also mid-Autumn. One of my favorite time of the year when the colors turn from green to gold and then brown, makes me feel melancholic, nostalgic, yearning for memories of a beautiful past. It also reminds of the song of my youth from the Bee Gees First of May.  This year, today is also the start of school term two in New Zealand, students and teachers are back to school, and parents have to wake up earlier than usual to prepare.  At the same time it's sad too because winter is just 'round the corner, when life comes to a standstill, because of the cold, frost and snow.

In other parts of the planet they also celebrate this day as Labor Day or International Worker's Day, a celebration of laborers and the working class. Perhaps that's why the NZ Labour Party wants to come out with the names on their list MP's on this day, to align themselves with an appropriate day.   It is also a public holiday in some countries like Egypt, Philippines, Brazil, India, France, Cuba, Singapore, Austria, China, Finland, Belgium, Iran, Norway, and of course Russia.
